Ryzex: Built On a Passion for Our Environment
Our story begins with an environmental commitment. Deeply concerned about the amount of electronic waste dumped into landfills – and sensing opportunity in a previously neglected niche – Rud Browne began Ryzex as a used barcode/ADC (automatic data collection) equipment brokerage. In his vision, equipment otherwise abandoned by one company could be of great value to another.
Over time, our environmental concerns grew in parallel with the business. We implemented an aggressive
buyback program to fulfill our policy of selling
Pre-Owned equipment, much of it high-quality technology no longer supported by the original manufacturer. Buybacks became the norm as we upgraded customers to the latest technologies. Further expansions into
repair and
recycling services closed the circle; taken together, our combined product and repair offers form our
FullUse Lifecycle Support vision, a comprehensive policy that helps companies realize the maximum value of their equipment investments while minimizing their impact on our environment.
Keeping our word: Zero Waste at Ryzex
Environmental responsibility, like charity, begins at home. In 2005 we took our environmental commitment to a new level with our Zero Waste initiative. Through a company-wide campaign eagerly embraced by our team members, we systematically reduced its waste by 100%.
Within one month of implementation, the first six-yard dumpster was withdrawn. Each month, we removed more trash receptacles, replacing them with recycling containers for cans, paper, bottles – and more complex materials such as metals, plastics, circuit boards and more. Lunch waste was composted; complex equipment was broken down, sorted and recycled by category, much of it at a profit.
By the end of its first year, our Zero Waste initiative recycled a total of 296,733 pounds of material at our headquarters. Today, we’re spreading the Zero Waste program to our other facilities and offer training to other companies who want to take an active role in protecting our environment.
